Join us on July 30 for an inclusive celebration of Raksha Bandhan with Desi Rainbow Parents & Allies!
.
Originating in northern India, many Hindus worldwide now celebrate the festival of Raksha Bandhan, which commemorates the bond between siblings. Although the festival was originally centered on a brother's promise to "protect" his sister, today many families see as Raksha Bandhan as an opportunity to celebrate the bond of love, strength, and mutual protection that exists between siblings of all genders.
.
During this pandemic, many of us may be physically separated, far from our loved ones. Additionally, for many of us who are LGBTQ+, "family" may be defined in terms of chosen family, rather than biological relatives. In these times, we invite you and your chosen or biological sibling(s) of any gender to join us for an inclusive Raksha Bandhan celebration.
.
Pandit Raja Gopal Bhattar, a member of Sadhana's Spiritual Council and Progressive Priests Network, will bring us together with a prayer and reflection. We will then hear reflections from members of Desi Rainbow Parents & Allies. Finally, we'll end with a virtual rakhi-tying ceremony!
