Janmashtami Celebration

Join us on Thursday for a Krishna Janmashtami celebration and fundraiser for migrant and refugee families! Registration link in our bio.
.
On Janmashtami, many Hindus all over the world celebrate the birth of our beloved Shri Krishna. As the story goes, Krishna was actually born in a jail cell—Krishna’s parents were imprisoned by his uncle. When Krishna was born, though, his father was able to miraculously escape the prison, putting Krishna in the care of his foster parents Nanda and Yashoda.
.
Just like Krishna, there are hundreds of young children currently living in ICE detention facilities across the United States. Just like Krishna, many of these children face the possibility of being separated from their birth parents. As coronavirus spreads through ICE facilities, ICE is threatening to separate families once again, offering parents the choice to give up their children, or risk suffering from Covid-19.
.
All donations from this Satsangh will go towards the Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), an organization which has worked for over 80 years to resettle refugees, reunite families, and more.
.
Dr. Anantanand Rambachan will bring us together with a reflection on the story of Krishna’s birth, and its relevance for today. We will then hear from Krish O'Mara Vignarajah, CEO of the Lutheran Immigration and Roopa Mahadevan and Shiv Subramaniam of the Carnatic Musicians Justice Project!
